Biography

Dr Ajit Bhat has over 22 years of experience in anaesthesia. He completed his initial anaesthetic training in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, which is one of the prestigious medical institutes in India. He subsequently came to UK in 2004 where he pursued his anaesthetic training in the East Anglia Deanery (Cambridge rotation). He has been working as a Consultant Anaesthetist since 2011 at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (formerly Heart of England Foundation Trust).

His sub-specialty interests include Obstetric Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics and Trauma Anaesthesia, Colorectal Anaesthesia, Anaesthesia for plastic and breast surgeries and Vascular Anaesthesia. He is regarded as an expert in regional anaesthesia techniques, which includes spinals, epidurals and ultrasound guided nerve blocks for providing excellent analgesia (pain relief) following major surgeries.

He is currently the lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia in his trust. He is significantly involved in clinical governance activities in the obstetric anaesthesia department, ensuring compliance with maternal safety standards as per the Care Quality Commission requirements.

He is also involved in various departmental teaching activities.
